thank me for not posting a picture...

It's dead baby bird season on my street. This is no joke. They litter the sidewalk. Little bumps of pale pink with white bulbs for eyes. I was walking my dog the other day when he picked one up and then spit it out. I should have picked it up and put it in the trash but I couldn't bare it. Later, on another walk, I noticed that someone had stepped on it and squished it. Why does this happen? Do they fall out of the tree? Get nocked out by predators? Any ideas? It's really sad and really gross. That is all.

We get dead baby birds and rabbits at my house all the time and it's usually due to some type of predator... just be glad you've never been looking out the window only to have a hawk throw a half eaten pigeon at you.

Huh?..Birds!?, Dead.Squished.Half-Gobbled- Up.Birds!!!?..Eeeek!!..Sorry, but I've a Major Phobia on 'Anything' with feathers!! (don't ask me why coz' I'd like to know too..guess I was unlucky to be born with this 'built-in' phobia in me..)..I totally love animals; dogs, cows, horses, seals, kangaroos, koala, panda even snakes but just not "the Bird's Family"...

So THANK YOU for not posting any photos..but those baby birds..poor things.. :(

Hi, DB!
I´m writing from Spain, I like a lot your blog. It´s amazing the way you transmit all those things to people who live thousand miles away.
I love the Dirty Ballerina philosophy too (the messages in your blog's margin). I don´t know why, but I have the Dirty Ballerina's image perfectly drawn in my mind.
Thanks for communicate, I'll be reading you!

Only the strong survive and it's not unusual for the nest mates to pick at the weak. If it is a predator(s),it sounds like the activity is more at night or early morning vs. during the day. Your location would narrow the type of predator guilty for such activity. Are you over populated with birds? If so, it's possible that someone is attempting to fix the problem or the birds are spreading something back and forth. It is gross, however, if you come across one a bit older, you can pick it up and (w/gloves & put it in a gal. size bag) contact local authorities and have them check out.

Good luck.
